In a bid to prevent the ugly experience of misgovernance in Imo, a group under the auspices of Amalgamation of Imo Professional Bodies and Associations, AIPA, has raised a template that will determine who takes over as Imo governor next year.
In an address presented by the group at a press conference in Owerri signed by Chief Emeka Diwe, President General Orlu Zuruumme and 11 others, Imo Amalgamation noted that in carrying out the onerous task of scrutinizing the records and antecedents of the would-be Imo governor, it has had to set up a committee on template and strategy charred by a former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Imo state, Chief Fidel Onyeneke.
The group disclosed that Onyeneke’s committee sat several times to produce a template that would reflect the incoming leaders.
Continuing, the Amalgamation of Imo Professionals declared that the decision to produce a template for the coming governor of Imo State was necessitated by the urgency to get Imo out of the doldrums and launch it among the comity of prosperous states in Nigeria adding that its action is justified by what it called the “sorry state our education, economy, healthcare and infrastructure”.
The group maintained that the next Imo governor must be a verifiable first degree holder or equivalent, a technocrat who has integrity, morality and character including good financial standing, good blueprint for Imo development, manifesto among others.
Amalgamation of Imo Professionals therefore called on other professional bodies in the state both in Imo and Diaspora to join hands with it to enthrone good governance in the state in order to prevent the state from further drift.
